Fruit feast day 29 #IKHLW


I got on the rebounder for 5 minutes this morning. I can really feel it in my legs and my abs.

Pineapple date smoothie, watermelon and in the round container a piece of durian. The smoothie was bad. I really can’t get this smoothie thing right. If it’s not coconut water and mango I don’t want it.
I miss not having my smoothie in the morning. I’m hungry but I really don’t feel like chewing. For lunch I had watermelon. It wasn’t very sweet and it was almost over ripe. 
On my way home I ate the piece of durian.

For dinner I had pineapple and jackfruit. I really like the combination. 
I can’t believe that there’s only two days left of the fruit feast. I’m still not sure how to make a raw vegan lifestyle more practical, but I’ll figure it out.

Fruit feast day 28 #IKHLW


Prepping my lunch this morning. I decided bringing the knife to work wouldn’t be a good idea so I cut my watermelon in half and wrapped it in plastic so I could eat it right out the rind.

I was out of mangoes and coconut water so I made a smoothie with pineapple, baby bananas and 3 soaked saggae dates. I didn’t like it. 

I don’t really like bananas. I bought all these baby bananas because I was told they taste better than regular bananas. To me the taste just like regular bananas, the only good thing is they are small and I can eat them quickly. I like banana nice cream, and I like smoothies with bananas and certain fruits, but not pineapple. I’m still hoping the plantains will be the member of the banana family I really like, but they are so slow to ripen.

Jackfruit. It’s what’s for dinner. 

It took me about 45 minutes to get the fruit out, but it was worth it. It yielded quite a lot.

I think I may try blending some with my pineapple tomorrow morning and make a smoothie. We shall see.

Fruit feast day 24 #IKHLW


Today I had a lot of errands to run. I made my mango coconut water smoothie and brought the two yali pears with me 

The pears were really good. Juicy and flavorful. I was going about my day and then this happened…

I blew my $10.00 per day budget with one purchase, but I had to get it. I’ve been searching for jackfruit all week so when I saw it, in my cart it went. To get back on my budget, I won’t be able to purchase any fruit for the next two days. That’s fine because I’ve got fruit I need to eat.
I closed the day with my new favorite combination.

Fruit feast day 17: mission jackfruit #IKHLW


I started the day with a green apple juice 

It was very good and filling. I think I’m going to start my mornings with this juice. I followed with my mango coconut water smoothie.

For lunch I had half of a watermelon that I cut up and put in two containers (I forgot to take a picture). I noticed I wasn’t really hungry by lunch time but I ate the watermelon anyway.
After work I stopped at the Asian market

Yes, that is a durian you see in my cart. I was craving jackfruit which is what brought me to the Asian market in the first place. There are a few Asian markets within a few blocks from each other and I went to all of them.

The first market didn’t have any produce. The second market had one jackfruit that was brown and moldy. The third market had a jackfruit but it was green, hard and about 30 pounds so even if it was ripe, I couldn’t afford it. While at the third market I picked up the items pictured above (watermelon, 2 yellow papayas, durian and 2 dragon fruits).

I still wanted jackfruit, so off to Whole Foods I went. The store nearest to my house didn’t have any so I drove 10 minutes to another Whole Foods. Jackpot jackfruit!
There were three slices left and I bought all three. This was all I got from the slices.

I guess I should be grateful, that store could have been out too. Knowing that this wouldn’t be enough to fill me up, I added a dragon fruit.

So in the last few posts I’ve been struggling with trying to make practical choices with how much I spend on this fruit feast and making the transition to raw vegan. 

Although I know I have to make more budget friendly decisions, I’ve decided not to stress over it. I’m having fun trying new fruits. I’m putting good food into my body which is going to save me money in the long term on doctors visits and other health related expenses. Plus I can always increase my food budget to accommodate my new lifestyle. I’m not going to focus on the destination, I’m going to enjoy the journey.

Fruit feast day 6 #IKHLW


I started day 6 with strawberry and pink grapefruit juice. 

After my morning juice, I didn’t eat anything for a while, then I made a mango coconut water smoothie with mangoes that weren’t very ripe and the taste wasn’t as good as the ones I made yesterday.

I went to the store and bought the items below. My goal was to just get the jackfruit but I saw the tamarind, I’ve never had that either.

I had to feed my papaya obsession and the mangoes are nice and ripe. I have one coconut left and I want to make a smoothie in the morning.

I couldn’t wait to get home so I could try the new fruits.

First the jackfruit. I’ve heard that it tastes like bubblegum. I did get that flavor. It also had a kind of savory finish. I have to admit I liked the first few bites, but the more I ate, the less I liked it. I bought it pre sliced and I it was close to the experation date so it may have been over ripe. Next time I will get the fruit and let it ripen before I try it again. I’m not giving up on jackfruit.

Now the tamarind. It has a sweet, tart and smoky flavor like roasted coffee beans. It’s very sticky. It’s natures candy and I could easily go through a box in one sitting!

I finished the day with watermelon. One of my favorite fruits.

I’m going through papaya withdrawal. I bought 4 papayas and they all are not ripe yet! I have to visit the Asian store and see if they have some in the ripe fruit section.

Fruit feast day 4 #IKHLW


For my first meal I had 3 dragon fruit and one papaya. This was my first time having dragon fruit and I wasn’t disappointed!

The red dragon fruit has a slight beet flavor. It is not sweet overall but it has sweet moments (if that makes sense). It has the texture of a kiwi. I really enjoyed it.

My next meal I had more dragon fruit. The white is nice, I liked it but I prefer the red dragon fruit. I also ate my last two papayas.

I bought a green papaya and a cherimoya, both have to ripen. I’ve never had a cherimoya and I’m anxious to try it.

I am always thinking of how I want this fruit feast to be for me, what my goals are. First I want to make it simple. Grab and go fruits. Second I want to try new fruits. I have found new fruits at my local Asian store and I want to find a Latin grocery store so I can find more new fruits. An online option is they offer tropical fruits by the box. I want to order their variety box. I really want to try jackfruit. Third I want to eat more intuitively instead of following a schedule. It is suggested by the sponsor of this fruit feast that you eat when your hungry and not follow a breakfast, lunch and dinner schedule. I want to pay attention to my body and know what it needs when it needs it.
