Why weight (wait)?

The first month of the new year is coming to a close. If you have made a resolution to get healthy and lose weight, how has it been going?

The pressure to use the beginning of the new year as a time for dramatic change can make the process more difficult.

  • Overcrowded gyms
  • Fad diet plans
  • Weight loss advertisements everywhere you look

This can become overwhelming. Maybe you should just wait.

Maybe the time isn’t right and you’re feeling stressed. The last few months of the following year were filled with the hustle and bustle of the holidays, you may be still dealing with the fallout mentally, emotionally and financially. Adding a weight loss resolution may be too much.

Stress is one of the biggest roadblocks to adopting a healthy lifestyle. The chemical makeup of stress makes weight loss more difficult and the emotional makeup of stress zaps your energy and motivation.

There is nothing wrong with taking time to create an environment that will support successful weight loss.

If you live in an area where the winters are cold and the sun goes down at 5:00PM it may be difficult to get started on a weight loss journey and that’s O.K. I hate the idea of going out in the cold after a workout where I’ve been sweating and my pores are wide open. In the winter I want warmth and comfort. I enjoy hot baths, soup and meditation. I try to make a routine around these things during the winter and start the more physical parts of my wellness journey in the spring.

So why weight (wait)?

  • To give yourself time to de stress
  • To give yourself time to create an environment for success
  • To give yourself permission to start your journey when you are ready

Take some time to assess where you really are in your journey, if you’re ready, go for it, if not, wait.
