I’m writing this blog mainly for me. Sometimes I catch myself posting something healthy on my Instagram page knowing the day before I ate French fries and Fritos.
As I’ve explained in a previous post, I struggle with binge eating, especially around that time of the month. I have gotten better over the past year but I do have moments where my garbage is overflowing with take out boxes, empty bags of salty snacks, and vegan sweets.
I remember before starting my healthy lifestyle journey, I would bring healthy lunches to work, but in the privacy of my own home I would enjoy my not so healthy favorite foods.
It got so bad I would take out my garbage daily so I wouldn’t have any evidence of how bad I’d eaten.
I soon realized that approach didn’t work. Just because I could no longer see the food doesn’t mean it didn’t exist. I was reminded of this every time my clothes didn’t fit.
So now instead of trying to hide my garbage, I pay attention to it. I use it to notice patterns and unconscious eating due to boredom or hormonal cravings.
