Review: Beyond Meat Sausage

The wait is over (at least in my area) Beyond Meat Sausages are available at Whole Foods.

I have to admit I’ve been waiting for these to come out since the company made the announcement late last year. So when the Beyond Meat Facebook page posted that the sausages were available at Whole Foods nationwide last Thursday (4/19/18), I immediately called the stores in my area to see if they had them in stock.

The sausages come in three flavors: Original Brat, Sweet Italian and Spicy Italian.

I had the original brat flavor first. It looks, cooks and tastes just like I remember bratwurst being like. The flavor is so close to the real thing, I had to read the ingredients a couple of times just to put my mind at ease that they are in fact vegan.

I put the Beyond Meat Brat in a pretzel bun with some red onion and spicy Greek mustard.

Next I had the sweet Italian and spicy Italian. The flavors of both are true to their name. I sautéed some sweet onion, red, yellow and orange bell pepper to put on top of the sausages.

Both are delicious!!

The sausages are made with pretty good ingredients and have more protein and less fat than the animal product.

There’s a little controversy with vegans around faux meat products. In my opinion being vegan doesn’t mean you don’t like the taste of meat and if there are products available that taste like meat without cruelty, blood, puss, antibiotics, steroids, death, adrenaline and fear in them, I say enjoy.

Needless to say, if you are a vegan that doesn’t like faux meat, this is not the product for you.

With all that being said, the Beyond Meat Sausages are a processed food and shouldn’t be consumed regularly if you are focusing on a whole food plant based diet, but it is a great product for those times that you may be craving sausages or want to cook for meat eaters without compromise.

I have to say I enjoyed these products very much. My favorite is the original brat closely followed by the spicy Italian. I enjoyed the sweet Italian and would purchase all three again.

I am looking forward to the Fourth of July when I plan on having a barbecue and inviting meat eaters to enjoy vegan cuisine.

So I rate the Beyond Meat Sausages 5 out of 5 carrots 🥕🥕🥕🥕🥕.
