The Difference Between a Diet and a Detox #IKHLW

Diet and detox both start with the same letter, but that is where the similarities end.

A diet is a form of calorie restriction that aids one to lose weight. A diet usually consists of a few foods that are consumed every day at certain times a day and in small ratios or portions.

Diet can provide rapid weight loss, but the affects are usually short term.

  • Lower your metabolism
  • Are difficult to stick to
  • Make you feel deprived and unsatified
  • Don’t teach you how to eat healthy
  • Usually lead to binge eating after the diet is over

A detox is when you consume whole fresh foods ( fruits and vegetables) to help break food addictions, cleanse the palette and help remove toxic build up in the body caused by eating processed, high fat and high sodium foods.

A detox is not restrictive you can eat all the fresh fruits, vegetables and drink as much fresh juice as you like until you feel satiated.

  • Helps you transition into healthier eating
  • Cleanses the palette
  • Aids in digestion since fruits and vegetables are high in fiber
  • Allows you to consume a wider variety of foods
  • Eating more fresh fruits and vegetables is better for your health

As toxins are being released from your body during a detox, you may experience:

  • Headaches
  • Runny nose
  • Fatigue

These are all good signs that your body is releasing toxins and these symptoms don’t last long. The degree of these symptoms depends on how your diet was before starting the detox.

When embarking on a lifestyle change consider the path that’s going to get you there for the long term and not the next stop.
