When you get the “stop losing weight” comment #IKHLW

Since I started my juice cleanse November 5, 2016-today March 19, 2017 I have lost 61 pounds and have gone from 206lbs to 145lbs. 

As I’ve stated before I didn’t start on this journey for weight loss, I started it to improve my digestion, break food addictions and to feel better. The weight loss as been a pleasant side effect.

So my mother told me the other day that If I keep losing weight I wasn’t going to look right so I should stop losing weight. 

Needless to say her comment didn’t make me feel very good but I took it with a grain of salt. I’ve been in the 200 pound range for over a decade so seeing me at 145 pounds is jarring. I still do a double take when I look at myself in the mirror. 

I know it’s to be expected when people are used to seeing you a certain way to make comments when they see you changing. So if you find yourself in a similar situation remember these three things.

  • People don’t like change. Especially if it challenges their sense of normalcy. Not that my mom was being malicious in her comments, it’s just that she has to see me in a different way and she isn’t use to it.
  • Feedback is about the giver. Comments made by others are based on their own thoughts and feelings about themselves.
  • Do what is best for you no matter what anyone thinks. I feel better, my digestion has improved leaps and bounds, I am not controlled by food addictions and I like the way I look, so I’m going to continue on my journey to live a more healthy lifestyle.
